Use the button below to download FireFox if you don't already have it!

FireFox allows the community to develop Add-ons for the FireFox web browser.  These Add-ons are distributed freely from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/.  Feel free to browse the add-ons.

I have found some of these Add-ons to be very useful.  The best part is that they are free and that each time you start FireFox it checks for updates to the Add-ons so you can be sure you have the latest version.

Security Add-ons

  1. McAfee SiteAdvisor
    • shows gray (unknown), green (good) , yellow (ok), or red (not so good) check marks next to results in google searches.
    • Before you click on a link you can hover over the check mark and determine a little about the site.  A dialog will popup with some information.
  2. NoScript
    • Disables all scripts when browsing the web.
    • This protects against JavaScript based web browser attacks.  You can also selectively turn on or off scripts if you decide to trust the sites.
    •  I sometimes allow JavaScripts from the domain of the site I'm at but block advertisers JavaScripts.  It also blocks flash and other scripting files not just javascript.

Web Developer Tools

  1. FireFTP
    • Full featured graphical user interface FTP client.  It works great and will allow you to store FTP accounts and user names.
    • If you have customers that need to send some files to you via FTP and don't have FTP installed this is cross platform and easier to install than a stand alone product.
  2. Firebug
    • Debug JavaScript in your web browser.  This has saved countless hours that would have otherwise been spent tracking down JavaScript errors.
    • It allows you to step through JavaScript as your web browser executes it.
    • You can even set break points.
  3. ColorZilla
    • Adds a eye dropper tool to the web browser so you can select the colors from any web page, even from pictures in a web page.
    • If you are trying to work on an existing site and need to know what colors the previous designer used this will save you time.
  4. YSlow
    • Yahoo has a tool that provides information about how long it took to load each page and even each element included in the page.
    • If you need to find out why a page is loading slow try this tool.
